Updated COVID Guidance

January 18, 2022

Dear Bridge Academy of Southwest Michigan Families,

Berrien County Health Department (BCHD) has recently updated their quarantine and isolation guidance for K-12 schools to shift to a standard of 5 days for isolation and quarantine rather than 10 days. This update follows the release of new school guidance from both the CDC and MDHHS.

Beginning on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, Bridge Academy of Southwest Michigan will be adopting the standard of 5 days and symptom free for isolation (those who test positive for COVID19) and 5 days and symptom free for quarantine (those who are identified as close contacts). If the school becomes aware of a close contact with a student who has tested positive, families of effected students will be notified by phone. Vaccination status may impact a student’s quarantine requirements. Bridge Academy of Southwest Michigan advises that families consult with the BCHD and their primary care doctor to follow best practices for preventing and treating Covid-19.

As always, BASWM students have 24/7 access to their schoolwork through Edgenuity and Google Classroom, so regardless of where they are working from, they have access to teachers and success coaches to assist with any needs they may have. If a student is not able to come onsite because of isolation or quarantine, they are still able to work remotely.

Students with any of these symptoms should stay home and work remotely for 5 days or the student can show proof of a negative Covid test:

  • Fever (temp over 100.4) or feeling feverish/chills

  • Cough

  • Sore throat

  • Runny or stuffy nose (congestion)

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Headaches

  • Fatigue (tiredness)

  • Vomiting and diarrhea

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • New loss of taste or smell

If a student tests positive for Covid-19, please call the school immediately so contact tracing may begin, if necessary. Bridge Academy students and staff will continue to wear masks and practice social distancing to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Thank you for your continued support and patience!

Sincerely,

Allie Knapp

School Leader
